At the end of the 19th - beginning of the 20th century, visual sources also play a special role in creating an image of the country's life, daily lifestyle, and activities. Visual sources typical of this period were described by local people as wonderful paintings, miniatures, and were created by Russians and Europeans who came to the country later.

In this article, the issue of ancient architecture and urban planning of Northern Bactria is revealed on the example of the Surkhan oasis, based on the results of research conducted for many years, based on the material evidence obtained in the course of this research, and summarizing the information of the available scientific literature.

In the beginning of the 80s of the 20th century, some positive changes took place in the social and economic sphere in Kashkadarya region. In particular, industrial enterprises were newly established, existing enterprises were reconstructed. In the article, the information from the sources representing the history of the Fergana Valley is compared with the materials of archaeological research. Also, the materials obtained as a result of the archaeological study of the history of socio-political, economic and cultural life of cities such as Akhsikent and Kuva, which are considered to be major archaeological monuments of the Fergana Valley, were considered together with the information from the sources. The scientific conclusions about whether Akhsi and Akhsikent are one city or a separate region are also studied on the basis of sources and archaeological finds.
