THE ROLE OF WOMEN IN THE PRODUCTION OF TRADITIONAL FELT MATS AND RUGS AMONG THE KARAKALPAKS

Serekhan Allamuratova ,

Abstract

This article discusses one of the traditional occupations of the Karakalpak people and the role of women in the production of felt and reed mats. These crafts have their roots in ancient times and have been passed down through generations to this day, thanks to the skills of hereditary craftsmen. Several families living in the Shumanai, Chimbai, and Muynak districts produce these materials for use in yurts and other purposes. The State also encourages and supports these traditional crafts, recognizing them as a unique part of Karakalpak culture. The article explains the process of creating a woolen bag, which can be used for both yurts and clothing, as well as weaving reed mats in various shapes and sizes for different purposes.
