This article studies the technologies of working with information sources by the mass media from a theoretical and practical perspective. The study analyzes the conceptual approaches of foreign and national scientists and studies the application of existing methods in local practice. A survey of journalists and a content analysis of the newspapers "Yangi Uzbekiston" and "Hurriyat" serve as an empirical basis. The results show that a large part of journalists prefer the Internet and social networks as their main sources. Practical proposals are put forward to ensure information verification, hyperlink culture, and source reliability.
