THE RATIONALIST AND HUMANISTIC POTENTIAL OF MATURIDISM IN THE CONTEXT OF THE ISLAMIC INTELLECTUAL TRADITION OF CENTRAL ASIA

The article examines the philosophical and intellectual potential of Maturidism as one of the most significant rationalist traditions of Sunni Islam formed in Central Asia. Particular attention is paid to the relationship between reason and revelation, the humanistic dimensions of Islamic thought, and the role of the Hanafi-Maturidi tradition in shaping a moderate religious culture in the region. Drawing upon the teachings of Abu Mansur al-Maturidi and Taufiq Ibrahim’s concept of “Qur’anic Humanism,” the study analyzes the importance of knowledge, rational inquiry, and enlightenment within Islamic civilization. The article also explores the historical connection between Maturidism, the educational traditions of Central Asia, Jadid reformism, and processes of modernization. The author argues that rationalist and humanistic values historically contributed to the development of science, education, and cultural progress. In contemporary conditions, the legacy of Maturidism is considered an important intellectual and educational foundation for countering religious extremism and promoting a culture of moderation and critical thinking.
