This article examines the socio-philosophical essence and stage-by-stage structure of the resocialization process for individuals sentenced to imprisonment. Issues of personal identity, cultural belonging, and social adaptation of convicted persons are considered from the perspective of social philosophy. The status of a convicted person as a marginal individual situated at the crossroads of two cultures – thegenerally recognized culture of society and the culture of the criminal community – isanalyzed. Based on M. Bennett's intercultural communication model, six consecutive stages of resocialization are examined: denial, defense, minimization, acceptance, adaptation, and integration. Professional deformation of penitentiary staff, communicative barriers, group thinking, and ethnocentrism are considered as key factors impeding resocialization. The results of the study show that the effectiveness of resocialization depends not so much on improving legislation as on the practical implementation of each of its stages. From the perspective of social philosophy, the necessity of treating a convicted person not as an object of influence but as a subject capable of self-development is substantiated.
