THE FAMILY INSTITUTION, MOTHER’S LITERACY AND GENERATIONAL UPBRINGING IN THE ACTIVITIES OF TURKESTAN JADID INTELLECTUALS

The article analyzes the scholarly and educational interpretation of the family institution, mother’s literacy and generational upbringing in the activities of Turkestan Jadid intellectuals in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The Jadids regarded the family as a significant social institution that ensured the moral and spiritual stability of society. In their views, female literacy, marital relations, child upbringing, girls’ education, family responsibility and national progress appeared as interconnected processes. The article examines the views of Abdurauf Fitrat, Abdulla Avloni, Mahmudkhoja Behbudi, Munavvarqori Abdurashidkhanov, Hamza, Cholpon and Abdulla Qodiri on the basis of the Jadid press and educational heritage.
