The purpose of this article is to briefly highlight and discuss the famous documentary historical story about Amir Timur, written by the English writer Hilda Hookham, as well as a comparative and pragmatic study of the translations of this book in Uzbek and Russian languages. The article discusses the basic principles of literary translation based on the work of Hilda Hookham “Tamburlaine the conqueror” and its translations, both in Uzbek and Russian. The comparison between Eastern and Western culture is highlighted through some examples from the original in comparison with its translations. The skill of translation is determined by analyzing the adequacy or equivalence of the translation, preserving and conveying in it the atmosphere and background of that era, and even correcting the author’s errors by the translator.
