A COMPARATIVE SEMANTIC ANALYSIS OF THE CONCEPT “PROJECT” IN THE ENGLISH AND UZBEK LANGUAGES

Komila Timurovna Abdullayeva ,

Abstract

The article presents a comparative semantic analysis of the concept project as verbalized by the lexeme project in English and its equivalent loyiha in Uzbek. The study aims to identify similarities and differences in the semantic structure of these lexemes and to examine the ways project-related activity is conceptualized in the respective linguistic worldviews. The research is based on data from authoritative lexicographic sources as well as contextual examples drawn from official and professional discourse. The analysis reveals that despite a shared semantic core associated with planning, goal orientation, and anticipation of future results, the lexemes project and loyiha differ in their degree of processuality and functional scope. In English, the concept of project encompasses both the planning stage and the implementation process, reflecting a dynamic and action-oriented conceptualization. In Uzbek, the lexeme loyiha is primarily associated with preliminary planning and design, while implementation is often conceptualized as a separate stage.
