This article provides a theoretical analysis of the linguistic nature of filmonyms, focusing on their nominative, communicative, and advertising-pragmatic functions. Filmonyms are regarded as special proper-name units that designate cinematic works; their primary function is argued to be the naming of a film and its distinction from other cinematic works. At the same time, film titles are interpreted as communicative units that establish initial contact with the audience, as well as advertising-pragmatic means capable of arousing interest in a film product. The article examines these functions of filmonyms through examples from English and Uzbek film titles. The findings show that filmonyms are not merely titles, but multifunctional linguistic units that mediate between the film text, the audience, and the cultural-social environment.
