DEONTIC MODALITY AS A DOMAIN OF SEMANTIC DEGRADATION IN MILITARY-LEGAL AI-GENERATED TEXTS
Indira Narkulova ,Abstract
The article examines deontic modality as one of the most vulnerable areas of semantic degradation in military-legal texts generated by artificial intelligence systems. Particular attention is paid to the transformation of meanings of obligation, prohibition, permission, possibility, and authority in the automated generation, translation, and paraphrasing of professional texts. Cases of weakening, strengthening, or neutralization of deontic meaning are analyzed, as such changes may alter the normative content of military-legal statements. The study argues that the formal grammatical correctness of AI-generated text does not guarantee preservation of its normative-semantic structure. The main indicators of deontic transformation are identified, and the need for expert verification of AI-generated texts with regard to their institutional and legal functions is emphasized. It is concluded that disruption of deontic modality should be regarded as an independent and semantically significant mechanism of degradation of professional military-legal content.
