THE INTERRELATIONSHIP BETWEEN NORMS AND VARIABILITY

Durdona Shukhratillayevna Egamnazarova ,

Abstract

The article examines the interrelation between the literary norm and linguistic variability from theoretical and applied perspectives. The norm is interpreted not as a static inventory of prohibitions but as a dynamic equilibrium shaped by socially and communicatively motivated selection among coexisting forms. Drawing on the Prague School, E.Coseriu’s theory and Russian and Uzbek normative linguistics, the paper traces phonetic, morphological, lexical and orthographic variants in literary Uzbek, with comparative parallels from English. Variability is shown to be a source of normative development rather than a violation of the norm.
