MORPHOSTRUCTURAL TYPOLOGY OF INTERFIX UNITS IN ENGLISH AND UZBEK PEDAGOGICAL TERMINOLOGY
Sukhrob Sobirovich Berdiyev ,Abstract
The article examines the morphostructural features of interfix units in the pedagogical terminology of English and Uzbek from a comparative-typological perspective. The study focuses on compound terms in which two stems are joined by the linking vowel ‑o‑, such as psycholinguistics, linguoidactics and sociocultural, and on their Uzbek counterparts. Morphological segmentation, comparative-typological and descriptive methods were used. The analysis shows that in English the first component of such terms is a bound Greco-Latin combining form, whereas Uzbek has borrowed these terms as ready-made units, mainly through Russian, and adapts them to its agglutinative structure. The study also describes hybrid terms in which an international stem with ‑o‑ combines with an Uzbek stem. The results can be used in compiling bilingual pedagogical dictionaries and in teaching terminology.
