The article offers a linguoculturological comparison of irrigation-related lexical units in Uzbek and English. The irrigation vocabulary is divided into four thematic groups, and its etymological layers, non-equivalent units and symbolic meanings within proverbs and idioms are examined. The findings show that in Uzbek culture, rooted in irrigated farming, this vocabulary is considerably more differentiated and culture-specific than in English. Units such as mirob, hashar, chig‘ir, sardoba and korez form lacunae in English, and their translation requires a combination of transliteration, descriptive translation and functional equivalents.
