This article examines the characteristics of the modern foreign policy of the Republic of Türkiye in relation to geopolitical factors. The study highlights the country’s historical-imperial legacy, civilizational identity, religious-confessional composition, and democracy-based modernization processes as key determinants shaping its foreign policy. In addition, Türkiye’s strategic geographical position connecting Europe, Asia, and Africa, its control over vital straits, and its maritime (thalassocratic) capacity are evaluated as crucial geopolitical components defining its regional and global political role. The article further demonstrates that in the post–Cold War period — particularly after the rise of the AKP to power — Türkiye’s foreign policy vector underwent significant transformation, acquiring a multi-vector character shaped by Davutoğlu’s new strategic approach. In conclusion, the study argues that Türkiye’s unique identity and geopolitical position remain decisive factors influencing its long-term foreign policy trajectory.
