CENTRALLY MANAGED INDUSTRY: THE EXPERIENCE OF THE UZBEK SSR (1945–1960S)

Abstract

This article analyzes the formation and functioning of the centrally managed industrial system of the Uzbek SSR. It examines the dominant role of union-level authorities in managing the republic’s industry during the Soviet period, the main mechanisms of the planned economy, and the limited powers of local administrative bodies. In addition, the article highlights the raw-material orientation of industrial development, the weak development of processing industries, and the socio-economic consequences of this situation.
