This article analyzes the scientific expedition to the Emirate of Bukhara by Robert Gauthiot, a prominent French Orientalist, linguist, and traveler who lived and worked in the early 20th century. The study outlines Gauthiot’s travel itinerary and explores his perspectives on the socio-political life, architecture, and linguistics of Bukhara. Special emphasis is placed on the scholar’s linguistic research conducted in the Zarafshan Oasis and the Yaghnob Valley, as well as his significant contribution to the study of the descendants of the Sogdian language. Furthermore, based on archival documentation – specifically, a letter dated September 16 from the Russian Imperial Political Agency addressed to Mirza Nasrullahbiy Koshbegi – the article demonstrates that every step Robert  Gauthiot took toward the strategically vital Pamir borders of Bukhara was closely monitored by the local administration.
