CHRONOLOGY OF THE CREATION AND EARLY TEXTUAL HISTORY OF THE BABURNAMA
Askariy Madraimov ,Abstract
This article reconstructs the history of the creation of the Baburnama and its significance for the source study of the Timurid state. The aim of the study is to determine the chronological framework and stages of the work's creation, identify the connections between the political circumstances of Babur's life and the nature of the narrative, and characterize its genre and early textual history. Using historical-genetic, historical-comparative, source-study, and historiographical methods, it is established that the Baburnama was composed over approximately thirty-five years and encompasses three thematic periods: Fergana, Kabul, and India. Differences in the methods of recording events are identified: early information is primarily reconstructed from memory, while from 1519 onward, the narrative takes on a more precise, diary-like quality. The synthetic genre nature of the work is demonstrated, combining features of autobiography, historical narrative, and state instruction. The early textual history of the work is traced, including its Persian translations and illustrated manuscripts. The obtained results allow us to differentiate the reliability of individual sections of the Baburnama when studying Timurid state institutions.
