HISTORY AND STAGES OF DEVELOPMENT OF LEXICOGRAPHY IN DIFFERENT NATIONS

Abstract

This article discusses and compares the emergence and development stages of lexicography in different nations. Also, it discusses the oldest dictionaries, their importance, the emergence of the first dictionaries in the lexicography of European and Turkic peoples, the factors of their emergence, methods of dictionary construction, location, features, differences; as well as it also contains information about the great scholars who contributed to lexicography, the stages of development of dictionaries in later periods, and dictionaries today. At the same time, there is given an opinion about the role of the 20th century in the history of Uzbek lexicography and many terminological dictionaries, educational and spelling dictionaries, bilingual and trilingual dictionaries, which served different purposes in this period.
