AREAL ANALYSIS OF MODERN UZBEK ETHNOTOPONYMS FORMED ON THE BASIS OF ETHNONYMS MENTIONED IN “SHAJARAYI TURK”

This article presents an areal analysis of ethnonyms-derived toponyms (ethnotoponyms) in the modern Uzbek language. During the research, the tribal and clan names mentioned in “Shajarayi turk” were examined in terms of their preservation as toponyms within the territory of present-day Uzbekistan, particularly in the Samarkand, Jizzakh, Surkhandarya, and Kashkadarya regions. The article scientifically highlights the role of historical-ethnic processes, migration, cultural interactions, and geographical factors in the formation of ethnotoponyms. Based on the areal linguistic approach, the territorial distribution, historical layers, and semantic changes of ethnonyms were identified. The results of the study serve as an important scientific source for a deeper understanding of the ethnic composition, ethnogenesis, and the formation of the toponymic system of the Uzbek people.
