This article examines the mechanisms behind the formation of the “madman figure” in literary theory, its artistic and philosophical functions, and its aesthetic interpretations across different historical periods and literary traditions. The study highlights the distinctive functions and poetic nature of the madman image. These functions are explained and presented in tabular form. The figure of Qovoqdevona from Abdulla Qodiriy’s novel O‘tkan kunlar (Bygone Days) is subjected to semiotic analysis, and the archetypal roots of this image are identified.
