Abstract

This article is devoted to researching the role of ancient Oriental cultures, particularly Persian literary sources, in the formation of Arabic paremiology. Based on classical Arabic sources (works of Al-Maydani, Abu Hilal al-Askari, and As-Sa’alibi), the linguistic and historical nature of the concept of “amthal al-muwallada” (modern/generated proverbs) is analyzed. Through comparative-statistical methods, the study proves that the original roots of many Arabic folk proverbs trace back to Persian wisdom. The results demonstrate that the Arabic proverbial system is a product of cultural integration within the framework of a multi-ethnic Islamic civilization, rather than being solely based on ethnic Arabian experience.

Keywords

Paremiology, muwallad proverbs, Arab-Persian literary relations, linguistic integration, cultural phenomenon, Oriental wisdom.
