ISSUES OF TEXTUAL CRITICISM AND LITERARY SOURCES IN ARABIC HERITAGE

Textual editing (verification of texts) is considered one of the most important fields of research in Arabic studies, as it contributes to reviving the Arab heritage and preserving it from loss or distortion This article aims to highlight the most significant issues related to the editing of texts and literary sources, including the concept of textual verification, its objectives, and the major challenges faced by scholars when dealing with manuscripts and heritage texts The study also discusses the role of textual editing in serving literary and historical studies, as well as the importance of adopting a scientific methodology in presenting texts in a precise form that reflects the closest possible version of what the author originally wrote The article relies on the descriptive-analytical method to present the main methodological issues encountered by researchers in this field, with reference to some applied examples in the editing of literary texts.
