This study explores Imam al-Zamakhsharī’s contribution to interpreting rare lexical items in Prophetic hadiths through his work al-Fāʾiq fī Gharīb al-Ḥadīth, one of the key compilations in this field. It focuses on his linguistic methodology, sources, and analytical tools used to uncover meanings.

The study also examines the status of this work within Arabic linguistic heritage, highlighting its integration of semantics, morphology, and syntax, supported by knowledge of Arabic dialects and cultural context. Using a descriptive-analytical approach, selected examples are analyzed to reveal his interpretive strategies and contextual reliance.

The study concludes that al-Zamakhsharī made a major scholarly contribution, and that al-Fāʾiq remains an authoritative reference for understanding Arabic vocabulary within its linguistic and cultural framework, significantly influencing linguistic studies in Arab-Islamic civilization.
