GENRE AND TYPOLOGICAL FEATURES OF “AYYAM AL-ARAB” IN THE CONTEXT OF THE ARAB ORAL NARRATIVE TRADITION

Gulnora Sattorovna Mutalova ,

Abstract

This article examines the typological and genre features of the “Ayyam al-Arab” corpus within the context of the oral narrative tradition of the Arabs. The study draws on a reconstructive analytical approach that takes into account the oral nature of the traditions, their variability, and the absence of a rigidly established genre system in pre-Islamic literature. The article identifies the invariant features of the “Ayyam”, including an event-based, episodic organization, a consistent range of motifs (intertribal conflicts, blood feuds, and the struggle for resources), and the specifics of the narrative representation of collective experience. It substantiates the syncretic nature of the “Ayyam al-Arab”, combining elements of historical testimony and protoepic narrative. It demonstrates that these traditions function as a form of collective memory and socio-normative regulation, reflecting the value systems and structure of pre-Islamic Arab society.
