“AL-JIBAL WAL-AMKINA WAL-MIYAH” BY MAHMUD AL-ZAMAKHSHARI: ITS ROLE IN LANGUAGE, TOPONYMY, AND CULTURAL HERITAGE

This article is dedicated to the work titled “Al-Jibal wal-Amkina wal-Miyah” – “Mountains, Places, and Waters” by the great scholar, eminent linguist, mufassir, and polymath Mahmud ibn Umar al-Zamakhshari. It discusses the history of the work's creation, its earliest manuscript copies, as well as its Latin-Arabic scholarly editions and the versions studied and published by Arab scholars. The article highlights the role of the work in the fields of linguistics, culture, toponymy, and lexicography, demonstrating its significance as an invaluable source in Arabic toponymy.
