Abstract

This article examines the concept of emphasis markers, their place in linguistics, and their functional characteristics on the example of the Arabic language. Emphasis is considered a linguistic phenomenon that serves to strengthen the importance of an uttered idea, place special focus on certain information, and ensure the clarity and certainty of the proposition expressed in speech. The study classifies the main emphatic devices in Arabic, including inna (إنّ), lām al-tawkīd (لام التوكيد), nūn al-tawkīd (نون التوكيد), qad (قد), sa- (سـ), sawfa (سوف), innamā (إنما), oath expressions, and repetition, from grammatical and semantic perspectives. Their syntactic functions, role in strengthening meaning, and communicative-pragmatic significance are also analyzed. The findings show that emphatic devices in Arabic play an important role in determining precision, expressiveness, and semantic focus in speech.
