DISCOURSE AND COMMUNICATIVE INTENT IN LANGUAGE ANALYSIS

Rachad Salhi ,

Abstract

The process of discourse analysis – regardless of its type – is fundamentally based on two main pillars: description and analysis. The former always precedes the latter, considering that description aims to uncover the elements of discourse, starting from individual structures, to minor predicative structures (the sentence), then major ones (the text), and the links that achieve harmony and coherence of these structures, guided by the subjects and meanings to which these structures refer. Therefore, this study aims to unveil the meaning of discourse and what it seeks in terms of objectives, which are referred to as discursive intentionality.

Keywords

discourse, analysis, rhetorical intentionality, language.
