THE ROLE OF AFGHANISTAN AND TAJIKISTAN IN THE CENTRAL ASIAN REGIONAL SECURITY SYSTEM
Ikromqul Rakhmonkulov ,Abstract
This article analyzes the role of Afghanistan and Tajikistan in the regional security system of Central Asia on the basis of contemporary geopolitical and regional security theories. Within the framework of the study, the geographical location of these states, their level of political stability, and their participation in transboundary processes are examined as key factors influencing regional security. Classical geopolitical approaches - the Heartland and Rimland concepts - as well as the idea of the Grand Chessboard are employed as methodological foundations to elucidate the balance of power and mechanisms of geostrategic competition in Central Asia. In addition, drawing on Regional Security Complex Theory (RSCT), the article substantiates the security interdependence shaped through Afghanistan and Tajikistan and analyzes the impact of transnational threats - such as terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking, and irregular migration - on regional stability.
